Who Says Online Gambling Is Not A Great Idea?
Really, this could turn out to be a very relevant question to be asking . As you know there are forces aligned on both sides of the issue concerning online gambling in South Africa. On one hand there are the proponents as well as the online casino players themselves who are all for legalizing online gambling. At the same time there are the opponents of anything to do with online casino action who want to take more proactive steps to completely prohibit online casino action throughout South Africa. At the same time, even the famous or infamous (depending on your point of view) Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) who seem to be on a mission to stamp out online gambling in all of its forms.
Perhaps it would be instructive for those who oppose online gambling in South Africa to take a very close look at a report that was only just recently released to the public. This report, funded by the Casino Association of South Africa (CASA) conducted a survey throughout all of South Africa to get a clear picture of what is really going on with respect to gambling and more importantly online gambling.
The numbers are revealing to say the least. In fact the numbers quite clearly indicate that South Africans really enjoy their gambling activities. More to the point, it turns out that with respect to online gambling as a separate activity, a whopping R17.2 Billion was spent with online casinos in the previous fiscal year. For the record, that number represents a 4.5% increase over the previous year.
At this point, you may well be wondering about other gambling activities. It turns out that the entire gambling industry in South Africa pulled in R24 Billion. If you take a look at the number above just mentioned for online casino action the truth is there for all to see. For an activity that brought in so much revenue, more than 70% of this revenue is attributed to online casino action.
Do you see the point here? Whether you are a supporter or not of legalizing online gambling activities throughout South Africa it is hard to argue with the numbers when you look at them that way. Imagine what opportunities there are for bringing in additional much needed revenue if online casino action is made legal. Do you need any more evidence that the time has come to legalize online gambling?
