What Does Playtech Know About Online Gambling In South Africa?

Of course you know the name Playtech. Playtech provides the online casino software for some of the best online gambling sites in the world. Check out most any online casino site and chances are good that you will find the name Playtech prominently displayed.

At the same time you are also aware that the big push to finally legalize and regulate online gambling in South Africa started off with a bang but fell short. In fact, some online gambling proponents are pointing to the Department of Trade and Industry and proclaiming that the Department is going out of its way to stall and even reverse the momentum for legal online casino action.

Thus, when a major company like Playtech makes an announcement regarding South Africa and online gambling, heads turn to see what this is all about. In short, Playtech is about to place a big bet, if you will on South Africa.

You may not know this, but Playtech already has a toehold in the South Africa gambling industry. Way back in 2012, Playtech setup a strategic partnership with Peermont Group. Peermont Group is a company that is in the hotel, resorts and casino business.

A spokesperson from Playtech, Mor Weizer points out that it is this partnership deal with the Peermont Group that sets them up to be a leader in the South Africa online gambling market. Weizer was quoted as saying: “…we are confident that Playtech is well-positioned to do well across Africa, but with a strong focus on South Africa.

At the same time, he also admitted that until the legislation actually does change (as many are still forecasting it will this year), there is not really much that Playtech can do. Yet, if you read between the lines you can’t help but see that it certainly looks like Playtech is getting ready for online casino action in South Africa.

Consider that Playtech also plans to roll out custom online casino solutions throughout Africa. If nothing else, perhaps this sort of action by Playtech will nudge South African legislators to go ahead with what they had already promised to do last year.

In other words, go ahead and authorize online gambling throughout South Africa. Obviously there is a demand by the people for online casinos. Now there is a big name player in the online gambling world (Playtech) poised and ready to provide ready made solutions. The only thing missing at this point is at the legislative branch. Hopefully the Department of Trade and Industry and other naysayers will go ahead in 2015.
