Exciting Times For South African Online Gambling

You may not yet have heard the news that is making the rounds in South Africa concerning a new development for online gambling. For the record, this news has more to do with online sports betting yet the ramifications could in fact extend far beyond online sports betting portals.

First up, search your memory and see if the name Oxygen 8 Gaming rings a bell. If not, you will want to note that Oxygen 8 Gaming is in fact the owner of record of BetYetu. Yes, the premier South African sports betting operator. As you probably know, traditionally BetYetu has had a decided focus on the game of football its primary sports betting offering.

Recognizing that the online sports betting crowd is interested in other wagering choices, BetYetu sought out a partner with which it could expand its offerings. That new partner turned out to be none other than FSB Tech. Under the terms of this new partnership, FSB Tech will now enable Oxygen 8 Gaming and BetYetu to provide a multi channel offering. Interestingly, this new partnership will also provide the ability to offer both a new pool wagering product as well as text (SMS) based sports betting.

You may well recall that FSB Tech made headline news last year after the announcement of a partnership with Mkeabet, a Tanzania based sports betting operator.

Speaking out about this announcement, Mark Robertson, the Oxygen 8 Gaming Head of Gaming had this to say: “We have been very impressed with FSB’s ability to tailor their platform to our needs and with the flexibility it provides. It’s an exciting time in Africa and we’re looking forward to using and extending our reach in Africa to make the most of what is still a relatively untapped market.”

On the other side of this partnership, Richard Thorp, the business development director at FSB Tech was quick to point out that :”…Given Oxygen 8 Gaming’s mobile marketing expertise, Tola’s Billing platform and our next generation technology, I am confident that this will be a hugely succesful partnership, building on the the existing success we are already experiencing with Mkebet in Tanzania.”

Well there you go. As you can plainly see, these are rather exciting times in South Africa for online sports betting. Perhaps the expected success of this sports betting partnership will lead to a more open discussion about the full legalization of online casino action.
